It is used as a valid identity proof, address proof and age proof in India. The information in your Aadhaar card is very important, therefore, to make Aadhar Card more relevant for people, the Government launched the concept of linking your Aadhar Card with your bank account. At first, when the concept of linking the Aadhar card with the bank account was launched, the government made it mandatory for individuals. But, later this rule was debated and then, Supreme Court ruled that linking the Aadhar Card with a bank account would not be made mandatory.
advertisementHowever, if an individual wants a smoother flow of transactions, they can opt for linking their Aadhar cards with their bank accounts but the choice would be entirely optional. Here are some ways through which you can link Aadhar card with the bank account and check Aadhaar/Bank linking status.
By visiting the branch of your bank: You have to visit the branch of your bank to link your Aadhar card with your bank account offline. At the branch, fill up an application form stating your name, age, date of birth, registered mobile number, bank account number, Aadhar card number, etc. The bank would verify the details entered by you. Upon successful verification, your bank account would be linked to your Aadhar Card.
Net banking facility: If you are registered for the net banking facility offered by your bank, then in just a few simple steps you can link your bank account to your Aadhar card. First, you need to into your Net banking account. Next, you have to log in and follow step by step instructions. Once successfully verified, the linking process would be completed. Mobile app: Nowadays, banks have their mobile applications (apps). You can download the app on your Smartphone from Google Play Store or App Store and use it to link your Aadhar card with your bank account. By visiting the ATM of the bank: The ATMs of the bank also allow you the facility to link your bank account with Aadhar Card. But remember, the facility to link your bank account with your Aadhar card is available only on debit cards which are issued against your bank account. Steps to check Aadhaar/Bank linking status Step 1: First, visit the UIDAI official website, www.uidai.gov.in
Step 2: Next, select My Aadhaar, under Aadhaar Services, click Check Aadhaar/Bank Linking Status.
Step 3: On the new page enter your 12 digit Aadhaar Card number and a Captcha code displayed.
Step 4: After entering the details, click Send OTP. Remember the OTP received by you is valid for 10 minutes only.
Step 5: An OTP would be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click Submit.
The status of your linking would be displayed. Keep in mind that it will only show you the last bank account that has been linked with your Aadhaar. If you have multiple bank accounts, then you have to check the status of the same with the bank.
